Warner Bros. is looking at a loss north of $200M on Tom Cruise's DIGGER. The math: $160M to $180M to produce, another $100M or so on marketing, against a global debut of just $20M. Projections have the whole theatrical run wrapping under $50M, which would put it past THE MARVELS as the biggest box office bomb ever.

Streaming might save some money, but the brand damage from a direct-to-video release would be huge. Studios need theatrical presence to justify future budgets for stars like Cruise.
