Belgium's World Cup history is a rollercoaster. They first appeared in 1930 but were eliminated in the group stage. In 1934 and 1938, they reached the round of 16 but fell short. They withdrew in 1950, then returned in 1954 only to exit in the group stage again. From 1958 to 1966, they failed to qualify for four consecutive tournaments.
