Nikki and Sarah OWW speculation

I keep wondering if Nikki and Sarah had a real friendship before OWW. The whole group dynamic feels off, and Sarah clearly chose Bear over checking on Nikki. Since Nikki knew Sarah liked him, they probably talked about Bear and other stuff, but it seems like Sarah's crush just swallowed any concern she might've had for Nikki's shift in personality. What if it was Ian who made that wish about Nikki instead of Bear, would Sarah have actually cared more?
