The Brasileirão was clocking 52:54 of ball-in-play before the World Cup pause, well shy of FIFA’s 60‑minute ideal. CBF and OPTA crunched the numbers and found that even Europe’s top flights fall short: Premier League 55:23, La Liga 55:09, Serie A 54:28, while Ligue 1 and the Bundesliga both sit at 56:17 (data from the 2026 season).
