"I’m a mechanic. I just filed my resignation. In two weeks I quit to go to college. I did all of this this morning. Now I’ll explain why. This industry is simply finished. There’s essentially nothing more to say. They ran a survey, surveyed two thousand technicians. Do you know how many people would recommend this job to someone else? Seven percent of the entire industry. You earn almost nothing. They promise almost zero hours because people no longer want to bring cars in for service. And in the end the technician ends up completely screwed at every stage. Prices for work are rising, but mechanics are no longer being paid. The cost of tools and professional training has also risen. To just have a normal set of tools, you need about forty thousand dollars, and you’re required to bring those tools on your very first day of work. The flat-rate pay system is completely broken. If I worked at a dealership and sat on warranty work all day, I would have quit all of this long ago. I’ll say it straight: I haven’t yet met a single person in my industry who likes their job. Moreover, I haven’t yet met anyone who doesn’t have tool debt hanging over them. New cars are deliberately made to break. And then try to diagnose it, let alone fix anything on it. So for those who are already planning to leave the profession, if you want my advice: learn to fix your own car. Buy a scanner. Buy a basic set of tools you can work with. Don’t buy a new car. I’d honestly say: don’t buy anything newer than 2015. Yes, my body can’t take it anymore, to be honest. I’m twenty years old, and I already have arthritis. Ask “where?” Everywhere. There are days when I work and I can’t feel my arm below the elbow because the elbow is completely wrecked. So yes, learn to fix a car. But do it on your own. Don’t try to make a living from it.” P.S. What do you think about this?🤔
