Reports from Axios detail how the United States is working with the interim Government of Venezuela to secure a direct stake in over a dozen oil fields. This deal contemplates at least 17 fields that collectively hold approximately 90 billion barrels of proven reserves. Should this agreement conclude, it would grant the U.S. access to reserves equivalent to almost twice their currently held proven oil reserves. Such a move would raise the U.S. total reserves to almost three times the current level.
