During a C-section, doctors carefully move through six main layers before reaching the baby. First, they make an incision through the skin, followed by the fatty tissue underneath. Next, they open the fascia, a strong connective layer that supports the abdomen. The abdominal muscles are then separated to create access to the deeper tissues. After opening the peritoneum, the thin protective lining of the abdominal cavity, surgeons reach the uterus. A small incision is made in the uterine wall and gently widened. Through this opening the baby is carefully delivered. Every layer is handled with precision, allowing doctors to safely reach the baby while minimizing damage and protecting the mother during the procedure.
