Jermall Charlo

Jermall Charlo is an American professional boxer who held world championships in two weight classes. He was the IBF light middleweight champion from 2015 to 2017 and the WBC middleweight champion from 2019 to 2024. Known for his power, precision, and undefeated record of 33-0 with 22 knockouts, Charlo was a dominant force at 154 and 160 pounds. His identical twin brother, Jermell Charlo, is a former undisputed light middleweight champion, and together they made history as the first twins to hold world titles simultaneously. After a three-year hiatus due to mental health struggles, Charlo is training for a comeback, aiming to reclaim a world title and remind fans why he was once considered one of the best middleweights on the planet.[编辑]

Jermall and his twin brother Jermell grew up in Richmond, Texas, a Houston suburb. Their father was incarcerated when they were young, so their mother, Debra, worked multiple jobs to support the family. She drove the boys to boxing gyms across Houston, instilling a work ethic that would define their careers. Jermall started boxing at age six, training at the Main Street Gym under coach Bobby Benton. He attended Lamar Consolidated High School but left early to focus on boxing, later earning his GED. In the amateurs, he compiled a 56-8 record with 30 knockouts and won the National Golden Gloves championship in 2009 at 152 pounds. He also won the Texas State Golden Gloves in 2012 before turning professional later that year.[编辑]

Jermall Charlo turned pro in November 2012 and quickly built a reputation as a knockout artist. He won his first world title on September 12, 2015, stopping Cornelius Bundrage in three rounds to claim the vacant IBF light middleweight belt. He defended it twice, including a unanimous decision win over former champion Austin Trout in 2016. Moving up to middleweight, he captured the interim WBC title in 2017 by stopping Jorge Heiland in four rounds. After two more interim defenses, he won the full WBC middleweight title on June 21, 2019, outpointing Brandon Adams over 12 rounds. He successfully defended against Dennis Hogan later that year and Sergiy Derevyanchenko in September 2020 in a grueling unanimous decision win that many saw as his toughest fight. Then came a long layoff. Charlo stepped away from the ring from 2021 to 2023, citing mental health issues. In June 2024, the WBC stripped him of his title due to inactivity. As of 2026, he is training for a return.[编辑]

Jermall Charlo currently holds no placement in the iFANN Global Top 1,000 rankings or any Top-100 scope list, a status confirmed by the August 2026 evaluation cycle. While his career once positioned him as a central figure in the boxing world alongside his brother, the recent convergence of legal challenges and a fractured family narrative has shifted his public profile away from the global elite tier tracked by the engine. The fanbase surrounding Jermall Charlo operates without a formal, documented name. Unlike pop culture icons with branded armies, his supporters identify simply as boxing enthusiasts or followers of the sport's broader community. His digital presence on platforms like Instagram under @futureofboxing and Facebook reflects a standard athlete-fan dynamic rather than an organized movement; there are no recorded instances of fan-funded campaigns, birthday billboards, or specific rituals initiated by a named group. The cultural mythology defining Charlo remains rooted in the unique "Charlo Twins" phenomenon, where two identical brothers simultaneously held world titles while remaining undefeated. This narrative dominated discussions for years until a public rift emerged in mid-2026, fracturing the dynasty that had been their shared legacy. Recent events, including a guilty plea to a DWI charge and a visa denial for a scheduled fight in Australia, have replaced traditional viral moments as the primary talking points. These developments mark a transition for Charlo from an untouchable champion to a complex contender navigating real-world consequences, yet he retains a significant following among those who track the intricate drama of professional boxing.[编辑]

Born just two minutes before his twin brother Jermell, Jermall carries the distinction of being the older sibling in the pair. Both brothers share matching chest tattoos reading "Twin Brothers," a visual symbol of their bond. Charlo maintains an undefeated professional record of 33 wins with 22 knockouts, never having suffered a loss in the ring. A collector of high-end automobiles, his garage features multiple Rolls-Royces and Lamborghinis. He has been candid about his battles with depression and anxiety, which precipitated a three-year hiatus from the sport. In July 2026, a significant chapter of the "Charlo dynasty" lore ended when Jermall revealed the origins of a publicized rift with his twin, shattering the image of their unified front. Another defining moment in his legend involves his unanimous decision victory over Matt Korobov, a grueling 12-round war that showcased his durability beyond mere power punching. More recently, a guilty plea to a Driving While Intoxicated charge in June 2026 altered his public image, adding a layer of complexity to his story that fans now discuss alongside his fighting prowess. Despite these setbacks, he remains a central figure preparing for a comeback against Mazoudier in Sydney.[编辑]
