Johnstone died in 2006, and his estate is managed by his widow Agnes and their children. At the time of his death, his estate was valued at approximately £250,000–£300,000. Since then, the estate has generated income through posthumous merchandise sales, licensing deals for his image and nickname Jinky, book royalties from his autobiography Jinky (published 2000), documentary rights, and revenue from the statue at Celtic Park which is a tourist attraction.
