Masayuki Oki

Masayuki Oki photographs only cats. The Tokyo-based Japanese photographer — born January 3, 1978 — has spent over a decade stalking the stray cats of the shitamachi alleys, temples, and cat islands, freezing them mid-brawl, mid-yawn, mid-bad-decision (PetaPixel). He calls his muses busanyan — "ugly cats" — with total affection; the 2015 book of that name started a publishing run past twenty volumes (SoraNews24). His Instagram (@okirakuoki) passes 800,000 followers.[编辑]

Born January 3, 1978, in Japan; childhood undocumented. Began posting cat photographs to his blog in 2015, haunting Tokyo's alleys, parks, and temple grounds to learn feline timing — the yawn, the stretch, the leap. The Busanyan book arrived the same year (SoraNews24).[编辑]

Eight years of Tokyo and island clowders built the portfolio and the Instagram audience past 800,000. November 2022 was the international break: PetaPixel's profile of the man who "scours his hometown" for comedic strays, My Modern Met's 30-photo feature, then This Is Colossal in December (PetaPixel, My Modern Met). Bored Panda and AOL showcases ran through 2023–2025. Book count passed 21, crowned by 2026's Neko: Cats of Japan, and he exhibits internationally, including Taipei (Bored Panda).[编辑]

The cat world's gentlest obsessive: playful, cat-centric, bios in two languages promising to photograph every cat on earth. Press unanimously frames the "special fondness for street cats" angle; the man himself stays out of frame.[编辑]

His Linktree reads: "Hello I'm Masayuki Oki. Japanese photographer of taking only cats. Thanks." Critics say he turns strays into "full-on main characters." The cats-only rule is self-imposed and total — no other subject in a decade-plus (This Is Colossal).[编辑]

Japan-born and raised; Tokyo-based. No parent, sibling, partner, or child detail is public. Household and pets undisclosed — the cats in frame are strays, not his (PetaPixel).[编辑]

Compared with fellow Japanese cat photographer Louis Rault. Published and platformed by Bored Panda, This Is Colossal, My Modern Met, PetaPixel (Bored Panda). Exhibited at a Taipei cat expo.[编辑]

No relationship of any kind is documented in any source. Oki has never discussed romance publicly. Status: undisclosed.[编辑]
