Nightcall

Vincent Belorgey, performing as Kavinsky, released "Nightcall" on April 2, 2010, as the lead single from his debut EP. The track features Lovefoxxx from the Brazilian band CSS, whose vocoded vocals create a haunting, melancholic atmosphere that defines the song's noir aesthetic. Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo of Daft Punk co-produced the record while SebastiAn handled the mixing duties. Its sound relies on retro synthesizers and a driving beat to evoke the style of 1980s action films.

The song found its defining moment when it opened Nicolas Winding Refn's 2011 film Drive. This placement linked the track permanently with the movie's neon-soaked, neo-noir visuals and introduced it to a massive global audience. It also appeared in the soundtrack for The Lincoln Lawyer, further expanding its reach beyond the electronic music scene.

Audiences rediscovered the track during the closing ceremony of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics in August. Angèle performed the song live accompanied by the French band Phoenix, creating a viral moment that broke records for Shazam activity within a single minute. Although the song did not chart high on major commercial lists like the Billboard Hot 100 upon release, it reached number one on the US Dance/Electronic Songs chart and has since earned multi-platinum certifications in France and gold status in the United States and United Kingdom.
