Ranma ½

Rumiko Takahashi launched Ranma ½ in August 1987, and the series ran for nearly nine years until March 1996. The story introduces Ranma Saotome, a martial artist who falls into the cursed springs of Jusenkyo in China. Cold water turns him into a girl, while hot water restores his male form. This curse sets off a chain reaction when he returns to Japan to fulfill an arranged marriage with Akane Tendo.

The narrative thrives on chaotic misunderstandings and physical comedy as Ranma navigates life between two genders. His father Genma shares a similar fate, turning into a panda whenever splashed with cold water. A colorful cast of rivals and suitors joins the fray, each bringing their own unique curses or fighting styles to the table. Takahashi balances these slapstick moments with genuine emotional beats regarding identity and relationships.

Serialized in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Sunday, the manga collected 38 volumes. It sold over 53 million copies worldwide and won the Shogakukan Manga Award in 1992. The work remains a defining piece of the genre, influencing countless creators with its blend of action, romance, and gender-bending humor. [编辑]
