    简介

Samsung Electronics began on January 13, 1969, as Samsung-Sanyo Electronics, a joint venture that produced its first black-and-white television a year later. The name Samsung means three stars in Korean, chosen by founder Lee Byung-chull to symbolize a company that is large, plentiful, strong, bright, lofty, and eternally shining. Through the 1970s the company moved into semiconductors, and a key merger in the 1980s with Samsung Semiconductors and Telecommunications transformed it into a major international player. Under Chairman Lee Kun-hee, who took over in 1993, the company adopted new management principles emphasizing intellectual capital and creativity, laying the groundwork for its modern dominance.

Today Samsung Electronics is the world's largest electronics company by revenue, generating $216.7 billion in sales in 2013 alone. It leads in smartphones with the Galaxy series, televisions, memory chips, and display panels. The company spent an estimated $14 billion on advertising and marketing in 2013, making it the biggest advertiser globally at that time. Samsung operates 12,701 service centers across 217 countries and employs over 260,000 people. Its brand value was estimated at $39.6 billion in 2024, ranking fifth worldwide.

Beyond consumer products, Samsung is a dominant force in components that power the digital economy. It supplies memory chips and displays to competitors like Apple, giving it an unusually broad position in the electronics industry. The company has pioneered large-screen phones and foldable devices like the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series. It also acquired Harman International for $8 billion in 2017, expanding into automotive electronics. Samsung continues to invest heavily in high-bandwidth memory, advanced foundry capabilities, and on-device AI-enabled phones.
