SPECIALZ

King Gnu delivered "SPECIALZ" as the second opening theme for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2, specifically targeting the Shibuya Incident arc. The track arrived on September 6, 2023, bringing a heavy rock fusion sound that contrasts sharply with standard anime themes. Daiki Tsuneta wrote and produced the entire piece, embedding complex rhythmic structures within a J-pop framework to match the show's escalating tension.

The lyrics take a unique perspective by adopting the voice of Ryomen Sukuna, the series' primary antagonist. He addresses Yuji Itadori directly throughout the song, creating a possessive dynamic anchored by the hook "You are my special." Tsuneta layered subtle numerical and visual puns into the text to mirror specific plot developments in the anime, rewarding listeners who pay close attention to the narrative details.

Commercially, the single dominated Japanese charts immediately upon release. It secured the number one spot on the Billboard Japan Hot 100, displacing other major releases like Ado's "Show" and holding the position for several weeks. While earlier reports cited a Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan, recent updates from April 2026 indicate the track holds Gold status, reflecting its sustained streaming performance over time.
