Kazuto Mihara's The World Is Dancing follows the life of Zeami Motokiyo, the historical figure who elevated Noh theater from folk performance to a refined classical art. The story begins with Zeami as a young boy named Oniyasha, performing sarugaku (a precursor to Noh) with his father Kan'ami under the patronage of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. The narrative traces his maturation as an artist, his philosophical struggles to define yūgen (a concept of profound grace), and his political maneuvering within the treacherous Muromachi court. Mihara grounds the drama in meticulous period research, depicting everything from the architecture of Kyoto's Kitano Tenmangū shrine to the costumes of medieval courtiers.

Published by Kodansha's Morning KC imprint, the series was serialized in Morning magazine from March 25, 2021 to October 27, 2022, and collected into six tankōbon volumes. It operates in the same historical milieu as Mihara's earlier work Hyouge Mono, which centered on the tea ceremony and the aesthetics of wabi-sabi. While Hyouge Mono took a more comedic approach, The World Is Dancing adopts a restrained, almost documentary tone, focusing on the grueling discipline required to master Noh. Kodansha USA Publishing released all six volumes digitally in English starting August 23, 2021, at $3.99 each; no physical English edition has been announced.

An anime television adaptation was announced on January 21, 2026, and premiered on July 2, 2026. Directed by Toshimasa Kuroyanagi at studio CygamesPictures, with series composition by Sawako Kawamitsu, character designs by Keigo Sasaki, and music by Daisuke Shinoda, the series airs on Tokyo MX, BS Asahi, and other networks. Yumiri Hanamori voices Oniyasha, with Shimba Tsuchiya and Katsuyuki Konishi in supporting roles. Sentai Filmworks licensed the series for North America. Critics praised the manga for its visual clarity, anatomical precision in depicting Noh masks, and balanced paneling between intimate close-ups and wide shots of medieval crowds. On Amazon, Volume 1 holds a 3.8 out of 5-star rating from 9 reviews.
