Vicki Cheung

Vicki Cheung is a software engineer and startup founder whose infrastructure work runs through Duolingo, OpenAI, Lyft, and Gantry. She was a founding engineer at Duolingo, headed infrastructure as a founding engineer at OpenAI, led compute work at Lyft, and co-founded the ML observability startup Gantry with Josh Tobin, serving as CTO (TechCrunch, Gantry via Startup.jobs). Her own bio line reads: CTO at Gantry, previously Lyft, KubeCon co-chair, founding engineer at OpenAI and Duolingo (bio via TwStalker).[编辑]

Cheung grew up in Hong Kong, where she first encountered computers in elementary school and later taught herself web coding as a hobby. A Carnegie Mellon summer camp in high school led her to enroll in college early; at CMU she connected with Luis von Ahn’s orbit, the path that led to Duolingo (talk on YouTube). Exact birth date is undisclosed.[编辑]

At Duolingo she was one of the first engineers, building the Android app, much of the web frontend, and the API layer, and leading the Incubator crowdsourcing platform (HashiCorp interview). After a stint as engineering lead at the privacy startup TrueVault, she joined OpenAI as a founding engineer and Head of Infrastructure, designing systems for large-scale model training. She then led compute and reliability work for ML at Lyft. In 2022 she and Tobin launched Gantry out of stealth to help teams monitor models and decide when to retrain (TechCrunch).[编辑]

Practical, low-profile builder: talks and interviews focus on scaling lessons from Duolingo, OpenAI, and Lyft rather than hype (HashiCorp interview). Her audience is engineers and MLOps practitioners; there is no fandom apparatus.[编辑]

iFANN-only numbers, read from live data: no YouTube channel data and no Last.fm listening data are on record for this engineer. Popularity rank: #39,317 overall, #29,209 by type (ranked 2026-10-19). She holds no placement in iFANN’s Global Fame Engine Top 1,000 or any Top-100 scope list. Her iFAMOUS footprint is conference talks and infrastructure reputation, not audience metrics.[编辑]

Co-chaired KubeCon. Native Cantonese speaker who has volunteered teaching Python to young women in Hong Kong. Enrolled in college early after a CMU summer camp. Gantry investor Amplify Partners backs the Tobin-Cheung founding team (Amplify Partners).[编辑]

Cheung keeps family life private; no parent, sibling, partner, or children detail is published. Her personal site notes a puppy, EDM, board-game meetups, and boxing (vickicheung.com).[编辑]

Luis von Ahn (Duolingo), the OpenAI founding team, Josh Tobin (Gantry co-founder) (TechCrunch).[编辑]

No relationship has been confirmed by Cheung or a credible outlet. She does not discuss relationships publicly.[编辑]

No reliable public estimate of Vicki Cheung’s net worth exists. Salaries and equity from Duolingo, TrueVault, OpenAI, and Lyft plus founder equity in Gantry are plausible components; without filings or disclosures any number would be speculative.[编辑]
