Peter Gabriel

他的第一支乐队是The Anon，后来更名为The Garden Wall。

1975年，在《The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway》巡演后，加布里埃尔因创作分歧和主唱压力离开了Genesis。 2023年，他按照月相周期发布了《I/O》，每首歌曲在满月时发布，并伴随I/O The Tour巡演。 他还为皮克斯的《机器人总动员》（2008年）录制了《Down to Earth》，发行了翻唱专辑《Scratch My Back》（2010年）和配套专辑《And I'll Scratch Yours》（2013年）。

Peter Gabriel commands a devoted following that defies the typical pop star mold, operating less like a singular cult and more as a decentralized network of audiophiles and activists. Unlike the monolithic tribes of modern pop, his supporters lack a unified official name, identifying instead through their deep dives into Genesis lore or their appreciation for his solo experiments. This community thrives in digital enclaves like r/Genesis, where fans dissect production techniques and preserve the mythology of albums like The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Their engagement is characterized by high-value streaming of back catalogs and active participation in charitable drives rather than coordinated chart manipulation. Legendary moments from his career fuel this devotion, particularly the surreal visual spectacle of his 1970s stage costumes and the grueling perfectionism required to perform tracks like Intruder live. While no single fandom name exists, the collective spirit remains intact, driven by a shared reverence for an artist who blurred the lines between performer and audience decades before it was common. In August 2026, iFANN Global Fame Rankings confirms his enduring global stature with specific industry placements: he is the 68th most famous person in Rock & Indie, holding steady from the previous cycle.[编辑]

Peter Gabriel's father invented an interactive cable TV network in the 1960s, a project decades ahead of its time. His first four solo albums were all self-titled Peter Gabriel. He played flute on Cat Stevens' album Mona Bone Jakon (1970). The "Sledgehammer" video used stop-motion animation; the fruit and fish props began to rot under studio lights. Gabriel said, "The fruit smelled okay, but the fish really began to stink after a couple of hours under the studio lights." He was one of the first major artists to release music on the lunar cycle for I/O (2023). Gabriel has been a two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, one of only a handful of artists to achieve that. He has won 13 MTV Video Music Awards, predominantly for "Sledgehammer." He also won a Brit Award for Best British Male Solo Artist in 1987. He received the Ivor Novello Award for Lifetime Achievement and the BMI Icon Award. A persistent legend surrounds his 1974-1975 tour, where elaborate costumes ranging from giant bird heads to mummy wrappings transformed concerts into surreal theater pieces. Fans still recount how his emotional intensity during these shows created near-religious fervor in crowds, though reports of mass fainting remain folklore. Another story highlights the physical toll of his perfectionism, with recent accounts noting that even decades later, songs like Intruder are considered too difficult for consistent live performance.[编辑]

As things stand in 2026, iFANN currently estimates Peter Gabriel's net worth at $90 million. His wealth accumulates from diverse streams including royalties from the Genesis catalog and his solo work, where he has sold over 16 million solo albums including 7 million of So alone. Revenue flows from Real World Records and the WOMAD festival, alongside the sale of OD2, a digital music service he co-founded, to Microsoft in 2004. Touring remains a primary income source, featuring the I/O The Tour (2023-2024), Back to Front Tour (2012-2014), and Rock Paper Scissors Tour with Sting (2016). He owns real estate near Bath, England. His net worth has grown steadily over the years, buoyed by catalog sales and continued touring. Additional income comes from publishing royalties and his involvement with The Elders and Witness.[编辑]
